For Issue 3 – JOURNEYS, we were graced with a contribution from the multi-talented Laura Lawson.
I came to know Laura through our work with Escape into Life, an arts and literature website we both write for.
Laura shared her personal journey with us as an artist and writer suffering from vision loss. Her article was accompanied by a wonderful artwork also created by Laura.
Born and raised in Orange County, Laura began taking private lessons in oil painting at the age of 10, and oils continue to be her preferred medium today. While studying painting at the Laguna College of Art + Design, Laura was diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa, a degenerative eye disease that is slowly rendering her blind.
Currently located in the San Francisco Bay Area, Laura balances her time between painting, writing, and creating support for the low vision community.
