Forest Fashion

I don’t know if you noticed, but if you look at the fashion spread in MOTIF’s INTO THE WOODS issue, you might find yourself falling in love the green, velvet skirt worn by our little red riding hood (Sophie Crenigan).

I certainly fell in love with this skirt when I was researching fashion for our forest shoot.

I even secretly tried it on when I was putting together all the outfits…except it was too small…ha ha ha

I can picture myself wearing this skirt with black stockings and Mary-Janes as I saunter through London!

OK, I’ll stop…the skirt and the cute red and white scherenschnitte skirt are all hand made by Hannah, from the Made with Love By Hannah label.

And while I love her website, I find her ETSY store easier to get a really nice, close up look at all the different varieties of skirt (there are so many! And I LOVE them all.)

OMG. Apples!

And a wrap around little red riding hood print!

All of Hannah’s skirts are screen printed with either the smallest little detail or an all encompassing design.

They are all super sturdy, super comfy and come in all sizes.

And then another favourite of mine from the shoot was the little red riding hood cape that featured in the first photos.

This beauty was lent to us so kindly from an Australian label called ENCOURAGEMENT AWARD.

The cape zips up fully in the front, with a button cover detail and the hood is completely detachable (if you so choose).

You can buy their best-selling item from their Etsy store and check out their other stuff on their BLOG .

So there we go MOTIF readers, two awesome independent labels by designers who are just like you and me!

If you like them, go and support them by visiting their site and buying their amazing clothes!

Made 590

When we planned for our INTO THE WOODS issue, I wanted to feature a favourite store of mine, MADE 590.

MADE 590 is a little store in a funky part of town that has so many delightful things it’s easy to get stuck in there for hours.

They sell all kinds of weird and wonderful, woodsy themed items and they would have been perfect to feature in our INTO THE WOODS issue.

Alas, due to unfortunate circumstances and the crazy-busy life of owner Christina, we were unable to get MADE 590 into the mag.

So, I wanted to pop in a quick post about Christina and the girls here on the MOTIF Blog.

Purveyors of all things quirky and curious, MADE 590 stocks their own lovely fashion label and adorable home-wares from all over the world.

And best of all, it’s all available online – so our readers from all over can enjoy!

Dan Hilburn – Photographer

If you have had a browse through Issue 2, you will have seen our fashion spread on page 54.

Red capes, white nighties, feathers and fur – all the ingredients to make a forest fairy tale photo shoot.

Set in the ‘wilds’ of Centennial Park our shoot occurred on a very cloudy day, with low light and and a darkening sky.

Lucky for us, it was exactly the kind of day Dan Hilburn and I had dreamed of for our INTO THE WOODS photo shoot.

It gave an edgy mystery to the images and with Dan’s mad skills and the help of his assistant Ray, they were able to create a perfect mood.

A graduate from the prestigious COFA,  Dan’s photographic experience includes street, editorial, fashion and campaign work.

His natural talent, keen eye and attention to detail yields amazing results.

Dan was an amazing asset to this shoot and helped make it all possible with his quick thinking and positive attitude.

To get in touch with Dan, just go to his website – it’s got everything you need to make contact.
