MOTIF’s Evelyn Goes to NZFW

What a proud little family we are here at MOTIF Magazine

Our very own fashion guru Evelyn Ebrey was lucky enough to snag a job reporting for New Zealand Fashion Week!

Officially, Evelyn is reporting back to the fantastic folks at NZGirl.co.nz with all the happenings of her local fashion scene.

NZGirl.com is a reader oriented website that gives all the fashion loving gals in NZ the skinny on everything from latest fashion tips to the best You-Tube clips to awesome beauty give-aways. NZ Girl is unique because it makes reader interaction a big feature which results in a website that provides a wonderful reflection of what people are really thinking and doing.

Unofficially, you can catch glimpses of NZFW on Evelyn’s fashion blog ‘Just So Pretty‘ which is, by the way, just so pretty!

Evelyn’s blog is a constant inspiration of the prettiest fashion on the catwalk, in print and in the stores. You can get lost for hours just browsing through the images of pretty girls in pretty frocks.

Well worth a look, we think Evelyn is marvelous and feel very lucky to have her on the MOTIF Team.

If you’d like to follow Evelyn’s fashion journey, you catch her on Twitter, Facebook, NZgirl.co.nz and of course her blog.

Laura Lawson

For Issue 3 – JOURNEYS, we were graced with a contribution from the multi-talented Laura Lawson.

I came to know Laura through our work with Escape into Life, an arts and literature website we both write for.

Laura shared her personal journey with us as an artist and writer suffering from vision loss. Her article was accompanied by a wonderful artwork also created by Laura.

Born and raised in Orange County, Laura began taking private lessons in oil painting at the age of 10, and oils continue to be her preferred medium today. While studying painting at the Laguna College of Art + Design, Laura was diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa, a degenerative eye disease that is slowly rendering her blind.

Currently located in the San Francisco Bay Area, Laura balances her time between painting, writing, and creating support for the low vision community.

To read more about Laura or get in touch, she’s working on a new blog at ArtByLauraLawson…check it out.

The Foundation Fighting Blindness (FFB) is the largest nonprofit organization in the United States dedicated to combating RP with research and hope for a cure. To learn more, visit http://www.blindness.org

Forest Fashion

I don’t know if you noticed, but if you look at the fashion spread in MOTIF’s INTO THE WOODS issue, you might find yourself falling in love the green, velvet skirt worn by our little red riding hood (Sophie Crenigan).

I certainly fell in love with this skirt when I was researching fashion for our forest shoot.

I even secretly tried it on when I was putting together all the outfits…except it was too small…ha ha ha

I can picture myself wearing this skirt with black stockings and Mary-Janes as I saunter through London!

OK, I’ll stop…the skirt and the cute red and white scherenschnitte skirt are all hand made by Hannah, from the Made with Love By Hannah label.

And while I love her website, I find her ETSY store easier to get a really nice, close up look at all the different varieties of skirt (there are so many! And I LOVE them all.)

OMG. Apples!

And a wrap around little red riding hood print!

All of Hannah’s skirts are screen printed with either the smallest little detail or an all encompassing design.

They are all super sturdy, super comfy and come in all sizes.

And then another favourite of mine from the shoot was the little red riding hood cape that featured in the first photos.

This beauty was lent to us so kindly from an Australian label called ENCOURAGEMENT AWARD.

The cape zips up fully in the front, with a button cover detail and the hood is completely detachable (if you so choose).

You can buy their best-selling item from their Etsy store and check out their other stuff on their BLOG .

So there we go MOTIF readers, two awesome independent labels by designers who are just like you and me!

If you like them, go and support them by visiting their site and buying their amazing clothes!
